Melbournes Crown casino has more spunk about it. There's not much to do once inside but look around as there's not many machines or gaming tables.
The crowds outside Monte-Carlo Casino photograph the expensive cars and occasional glam person posing yes people actually pose by their cars.
Suntanned men with two or three too many buttons undone manoeuvre cars designed not to do less then 60 mph around a small roundabout.
Visit the casino interior during the day and you'll find bored-looking staff patrolling a tacky fruit machine hall although look up and it's rather a pretty room.
Beyond, a second room offers single 5 euro minimum roulette table that has seen better days; surrounded by people trying to get a place. There is absolutely no style, warmth or charm whatsoever.
Rather like Monaco itself, the Casino trades on past glories, I fear. As noted, this is something to tick off the list. Presumably the Salon Europe is more stylish but based on this experience I won't bother finding out.
Whilst in Monte Carlo we visited the famous Casino. We didn't have time to go in but the exterior is fantastic. Such a nice building. Well worth the trip up the hill.
Monte Carlo, Monaco, Grand Prix, Formula 1, Bentleys, Rolls, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Casino - They are all there - And we just gawk at these things and feel great about seeing this stuff - really, we go back to our old Hondas and say yes Monte Carlo was beautiful - it is not great guys - this place is a waste of time - the ships come here so you can waste your time as well.
It was the highlight for us - we did a little swimming - the weather outside was F, and if you are sitting on the beach oops rocks then it radiated to over F.
I am not sure how these other folks can just lie down half naked and let the sun burn the crap out of them - I couldn't even tolerate the sun for 15 minutes before running into the water again.
Skip this part of the wold and just to Thailand or Africa or Mexico where your feet don't hurt when you try to get to the water as you are walking on sand and not hot roasted rocks.
Oh I forgot - you can't even rest while you are on the beach - everyone around you is smoking - everyone - it is a terrible habit - let me count how many times you can die in such a little space - one - through the natural sun rays cooking your body, two through the enormous amount of smoke from all your neighbors, three through the paragliding business boat which makes sure that you have to watch out for him when he comes to drop off his clients and he doesn't take your head off at the same time while he powers into the beach, fourth - maybe falling down and breaking both your legs on the hot beach stones and lastly, the waves just come and get you and that may be the only wishful one you ant to choose.
And the semi-nudes - most you wish they didn't do it that way. It just turned you off. Absolute waste of a port and a beach. Probably the only thing of decency here was the fish spa we did right before we got back on our boat.
Amazing building, you have to see it inside, but it wasn't cheap to get it, you can't take photos, it is full of tourists and they seem to allow them to wear anything now which makes it tacky.
