In AOW the races really do not seem that much different besides appearance but unlike the previous games its about the classes.

In my opinion AOW 3 is not the best of the series. The first game is by far the best, but the next expansion does seem really promising.

Even saying that I do think Endless Legend has better Race design and world design. Having played both I find endless to not only be a much better built game but also more approachable.

Not for 4X no. I have heard that AoW has a better combat system, but again coming from Civ which has basically no combat system, that's probably okay.

They have a very similar combat system its almost identical except for the AOW battles are fought in tactical maps while the EL battles are fought on the map as in the tactical battles use the terrain on the map that the battle is near as part of the battle.

I would say that EL is a better game. Also, I would recommend looking at some lets plays before deciding.

AOW battles are really tactical. EL has barely any tactics in the battle. Not the same level of control and detail. I have bought both the day they were released: I uninstalled aow3 after 2 weeks because it was worse than heroes of might and magic on every point, and still play Endless Legend a lot.

Aow3 isn't innovative in any way, it's just an aow that looks better than the others. It has multiple races, that are almost all the same, no gameplay difference.

I also think the game is rather ugly for a game. The hero system is not great, and so is the science one. And of course the devs are going to try and sell shitty dlcs.

That being said, there's a lot of strategy involved in the combats. Each faction also has a main quest line not sure how to say this, not a native English speaker that, if completed, makes you win the game.
